My Life at NIFT

Being here at NIFT Chennai so far has been one rollercoaster ride. There have been more ups and downs than I can count on my fingers.
Since the day I got here, It was like another world I was stepping into. A place, where everyone can completely, entirely, one hundred per cent be themselves. It was almost like culture shock to me.
It has been incredible to be able to have this kind of exposure to the design world, its learnings, and what it has to offer. The past four months have gone by in lightning speed. Day after day, assignment after assignment. Each and every assignment had something I could learn from, or something I had never done before. I believe that practice makes perfect and the foundation year is essential for all designers. One of my favourite classes till date has been Material Studies, in which we have worked with Terracotta Clay, Plaster of Paris, Paper Maché, Bronze and Aluminium Metal, Wire, Enamel, etc. We've spent hours at learning the method to make sculptures out of these materials, its machinery, how they work and how to use them to its full capacity. Not only am I getting the opportunity to develop my skills, but the experience of using the equipment.

Another class I have loved is Digital Design and Communication, where we have practiced a lot of Photography and Photoshop. I always had an interest in Graphics and I was overjoyed to know that we would be learning how to use it semester 1 itself.
I absolutely love taking pictures, of anything and everything! Having a class which targets photography as a separate subject matter, and provides us with topics like "Shadows", "Emotions", "Perspective", "Textures", "People", etc really helps focus on one thing at a time, rather than getting distracted.

Apart from my favourite classes, I have really enjoyed celebrating Onam, Diwali and Navratri. Another recent event that I got a thrill out of, was the NIFT Premier League, that took place at the Futsal court, at the NIFT Girls Hostel.

Over the past couple weeks I have made a bunch of compilation reels, about all my experiences here and have posted them on my art account on Instagram. Down below are the links to the reels. Hope you get an insight on my life at NIFT by watching them! :)
